NRI investment questions β answered.
Can I invest in Indian mutual funds as an NRI? +
Yes. NRIs can invest in Indian mutual funds through their NRE or NRO bank accounts. Gamp handles the entire process β KYC, fund selection, and account setup β remotely.
What is the difference between NRE and NRO accounts for investment? +
NRE accounts hold foreign income converted to INR β investments from NRE are fully repatriable and tax-free in India. NRO accounts hold Indian-source income (rent, dividends) β only partial repatriation is allowed (up to USD 1 million per year).
Do I need a PAN card to invest as an NRI? +
Yes, a PAN card is mandatory for all investments in India. If you don't have one, we can guide you through the application process β it can be done online from abroad.
Will my India investments be taxed in my country of residence? +
It depends on your country's tax treaty with India (DTAA). We advise on Indian tax obligations and coordinate with your local CA or tax advisor for the resident-country side.
Can I do everything online, or do I need to visit India? +
Everything can be done remotely β KYC, account opening, fund selection, and ongoing management. You never need to visit India just to manage investments.
How do I redeem my Indian investments and transfer money abroad? +
Redemption proceeds from NRE investments can be transferred abroad freely. NRO proceeds require Form 15CA/15CB from a CA. We assist with the process coordination.
What if I return to India? What happens to my NRI investments? +
When you become a Resident Indian (RI), your NRE accounts need to be redesignated to Resident accounts within a specific timeline. We guide clients through this transition to ensure no disruption.
Is Gamp Finserv FEMA compliant for NRI investments? +
Yes. All products and structures we recommend for NRI clients are fully FEMA-compliant. We do not recommend any grey-area structures.
